BHUBANESWAR: With Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik continued to distance him from Ganjam politics, Gopalpur MLA Pradeep Panigrahi on Monday faced tough weather in his Assembly segment during a flag hoisting ceremony.
The MLA Panigrahi was allegedly assaulted while he was on his way to his constituency for flag hoisting.
According to reports, the Legislator was on his way to Kamalapur village under Rangeilunda block to hoist flag at an Independence Day event when some members of the BJD intercepted his vehicle and assaulted him.
Following this, a scuffle also ensued between the party members and Panigrahi’s supporters.
MLA Panigrahi alleged that BJD workers behaved with him like a Maoists or terrorist and condemned such acts. ‘I was on my way to attend a flag hoisting ceremony while they attacked me and stopped my vehicle,” MLA Panigrahi said.
Video footage aired in various TV channels shown that MLA Panigrahi was grilled by locals amid shouing “ Pradeep Panigrahi go back”.
