BHUBANESWAR: On 09.05.2024, Court of 2nd Additional District Judge cum Special Judge, Bhubaneswar in Khordha convicted three accused persons namely 1) Debasish Behera aka Rinku S/o. Santosh Behera of Narasinghpur PS. Nilgiri Dist. Balasore , 2) Prabir Kumar Singh aka Situ S/o. Late Pendu aka Suryanarayan Singh of Gopalgaon PS,. Balasore Town Dist. Balasore and 3) Sk Kausar Alli S/o. Sk Ajgar Alli of Gopalgaon PS,. Balasore Town Dist. Balasore U/s. 21(c)/29 NDPS Act, 1985 in STF PS Case No.20/2020.
The accused persons were convicted and sentenced to undergo Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) for 20 Years & to pay fine of 1 Lakhs & in default RI for 01 year.
In this case on 19.06.2020 while the accused persons were transporting contraband brown sugar in a Bolero vehicle after procuring the same from West Bengal side were intercepted near Rasulgarh crossing i.e. in front of esplanade mall, Bhubaneswar. During search huge quantity of contraband Brown Sugar weighing 4 Kg 458 gram and other incriminating materials were recovered and seized from their possession.
After successful investigation, charge sheet was submitted against the accused persons U/s 21(c)/29 NDPS Act, 1985. Trial was conducted against above noted accused persons. During trial the prosecution has examined 13 Nos. of witnesses and exhibited 79 Nos. of documents. The seized contraband Brown Sugar has already been destroyed as per order of the Hon’ble Court. STF is the specialized wing of Odisha Police to curb the organized crime in the State. Narcotic drugs is the main focus area of STF and STF will continue its drive against the such drug peddlers.
This is the first case in Odisha where the accused persons were convicted 20 years imprisonment under NDPS Act, 1985.
