BHUBANESWAR: Dhamnagar BDO Durga Charan Murmu and Tihidi BDO Basant Sahani had been transferred ahead of the by-poll. Murmu had been working for more than three years while Sahani is a native of the same district. BJP had not knocked the door of State Election Commission.
The Commission on Thursday rejected the allegation of the BJP. The transfer was made as per the recommendation of the district election officer, it added. In a statement, the chief electoral officer stated that ‘not transferring them would amount to violation of code of conduct.’
“The continuance of these two officers in the district was in violation of the provisions of model code of conduct of Election Commission as no officer connected to the by-election can continue in the constituency for more than three years and in the home district when the model code of conduct is in force,” the statement read.
