SRC Asks Ganjam Collector to not allow People to Sea Beaches

BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha Special Relief Commissioner, PK Jena on Tuesday asked Ganjam Collector to not allow people visiting sea beaches of Gopalpur and other beach areas of the district in view of the Cyclone Asani.

‘Ganjam Collector @Ganjam_Admin asks people not to visit Gopalpur and other sea beaches in the district today and tomorrow. @IPR_Odisha@osdmaodisha’ SRC Jena said in  a tweet.

The system will cross Odisha coast as deep depression, most likely it will pass around 78kms off the coast near Gopalpur in the morning of 12th May. Rainfall intensity to increase in coastal districts tomorrow. 7-11cm rainfall expected in some areas, SRC said citing IMD report.

IMD said, the SCS Asani lay centered at 0530 hours IST of today near latitude 14.8°N and longitude 84.0°E, 300 km SE of Kakinada, 330 km SSE of Visakhapatnam, 510 km SSW of Gopalpur and 590 km SSW of Puri. It is likely to weaken gradually into a CS during next 24 hours.

Earlier on Monday, 11persons from Vizag got struck close to Pati Sonapur beach in Ganjam of the State and were airlifted by Indian Coast Guard.
