BHUBANESWAR: The Special Crime Unit (SCU), operating from the third floor of Police Seba Bhawan, has continued to demonstrate its professionalism in tackling fraud and narcotics cases since its inception on May 10, 2023. The unit, under the adept leadership of Shri Sanjeev Satpathy, ADCP, ACP KK Hariprasad, Inspector Sudhir Sahu, and Inspector Santosini Behera, has been instrumental in the apprehension of criminals involved in drug trafficking.
In its relentless pursuit of ensuring the safety of the twin cities, SCU’s Narcotics wing received credible information a month ago about a large consignment of brown sugar being circulated within Bhubaneswar. This operation involved individuals from Delanga in Puri, who were allegedly part of a criminal network procuring the contraband from West Bengal.
After a month-long intensive investigation, the dedicated team successfully apprehended two suspects, Niranjan Pattjoshi (31) and Pradipta Kumar Sahoo (36), both residents of Delang, Puri, from Fuleswari Basti under Bharatpur Police Station as they were in the act of selling drugs. The arrest was made in possession of 1 kg 12 grams of brown sugar with an estimated market value of Rs 1.12 crores.
The seizure also included two motorcycles used for the transportation of the contraband. The SCU, through its dedicated efforts, has so far seized a total of 1420 grams of brown sugar valued at 1.42 Cr, and 230 kg of contraband ganja valued at 23 lakhs, showcasing its commitment to curbing drug-related crimes in the region.
The SCU will forward the arrested individuals for further investigation to gather evidence on the involvement of others in the criminal network. Additionally, a financial probe will be initiated to unveil the full extent of this illicit operation.
