SOA Organises Webinars on Impact of Pandemic on Hospitality Sector

BHUBANESWAR: Life can only be meaningful if one can work to help others, eminent journalist and former MP  Tarun Vijay said while participating in a webinar series on the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the hospitality sector organised by the SOA Deemed to be University.

 Vijay said the spirit of living for others, compassion and service could be the springboard for combating pandemics like the coronavirus. “A woman in the Indian society is the epitome of dharma and Indians always lived for others,” he said.

The webinar, seventh in the series, on the subject ‘Relevance of Ancient Indian Wisdom: Sarve Vabantu Sukhinah in the present pandemic scenario’ was organised recently by the School of Hotel Management (SHM), SOA’s faculty of tourism and hospitality management.

Prof. Amitabha Ghosh, Scientist National Academy of Sciences, Allahabad and former Director, IIT, Kharagpur, Dr. R.P.Raya, National Vice-President, Bharatiya Sikshan Mandal, Nagpur and former Dean, School of Management, Pondicherry University, Dr. Byomakesh Tripathy, Vice-Chancellor, Utkal University of Culture, Dr. Saraju Rath, Senior Researcher, International Institute for Asian Studies, Leisden, Netherlands and Dr. Prafulla Kumar Mishra, Chancellor, Dr. Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University, Pusa were among the participants.

Dr. Sudev Pritam Basu, Deputy Proctor, Viswa Bharati University, Santiniketan, moderated the discussion. Prof. Sithikantha Mishra, Advisor-cum-Dean, SHM, introduced the theme saying wisdom was one of the greatest human attributes. The practice of ethical wisdom could help humanity to live in harmony, he said.

SHM also conducted a webinar a day earlier on the subject ‘Indian ethos on citizen’s social responsibility for managing the present global crisis’. Prof. Rashmita Pradhan, Prof. Santosh Kumar Bisoi, Prof. Sanghamitra and Prof. Mou Roy, all Assistant Professors at SHM, also spoke.
