BHUBANESWAR: Experts from different parts of the world converged on-line to discuss subjects relating to electrical power engineering, advanced computing and communication engineering at the first International Conference on Green Technology for Smart City and Society (GTSCS) held at the SOA Deemed to be University .
Subjects across the spectrum were discussed at the two-day virtual conference with Prof. Bidyadhar Subudhi of IIT, Goa providing an overview about control of micro grid system, pointing out its challenges and explaining distributed control.
Micro grid, Prof. Subudhi said, was the building block for the smart grid which must be equipped with two way communication, advance metering and lots of sensors. He also spoke about voltage and frequency regulation for both grid connected and islanded modes.During grid disturbances, the micro grid went into islanded mode where the micro grid controller had to provide voltage support and ensure power quality, he said.
Different sessions of the multi-disciplinary conference, organised at the Institute of Technical Education and Research (ITER), SOA’s faculty of engineering on August 13 and 14, were addressed by Prof. Mamta Agiwal of Sejong University, Seoul, South Korea, Prof. Daniel Pelusi of University of Teramo, Italy, Prof. Akshay Rathore of Concordia University, Canada, Prof. Bhim Singh of IIT, Delhi and Prof. B.K.Panigrahi of IIT, Delhi.
Prof. Agiwal discussed the role of wireless communication in Smart City and Industry 4.0, especially highlighting the role and challenges of B5G and 6G wireless systems. The 6G technology had to be developed specifically to connect hundreds and billions of machines as it was the need of Industry 4.0, she said.
Prof. Rathore, who spoke about research and development in electric vehicle (EV), ground transportation in India and sustainable EV charging, discussed battery characteristics and capacity, influence of temperature on battery such as leakage and the issue of battery disposal.
Prof. Bhim Singh said innovation in any technology and their approach of application in diverse domain could make the system become smarter.Prof. Renu Sharma, Head, Department of Electrical Engineering, ITER and General Chair, who welcomed the guest speakers and delegates, said development and modernization of society was directly linked to the innovative inventions and advancements of present technology.
GTSCS had brought together academicians, scientists, researchers from the industry, research scholars and students working in all areas of electrical, electronics, advanced computing and intelligent engineering, Prof. Sharma said.
The inaugural session of the conference was attended by Prof. P.K.Nanda, SOA’s Dean (Research and Development), Prof. P.K.Sahu, Dean of ITER, Prof. P.K.Dash, Director of SOA’s Multidisciplinary Research Centre, Prof. M.K.Mallick, Director, ITER and Prof. Manohar Mishra, Organising Chair of GTSCS.
