BHUBANESWAR: In the past six months, State Information Commissioner Sri Pranabindu Acharya, Court-III , has levied penalties ranging from ₹5,000 to ₹25,000 on defaulting Public Information Officers (PIOs) and referred PIOs across key departments including Housing & Urban Development, Agriculture, Panchayati Raj, and Works Department.
These penalties, totaling ₹3,30,000, were imposed in approximately 25 Second Appeals and Complaint Cases (S.A./C.Cs) for persistent failure to provide information sought by appellants under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005.
The State Information Commission’s actions reinforce strict compliance with RTI provisions, holding errant officers accountable to promote transparency in public administration.
