BHUBANESWAR:The ‘Operation Cyber ​​Kabbach’ campaign launched by the Odisha Police with the aim of completely destroying the cyber crime network is continuing vigorously across the state. Under the direction of the State Director General of Security, Shri Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, the operation has entered its seventh day and Sambalpur, Rourkela and Jharsuguda police have achieved remarkable success.

Today, the Cyber ​​Cell, Crime Branch and Sambalpur District Police have successfully busted a major cyber fraud. In this incident, the police checked more than 300 suspicious anonymous bank accounts and from the preliminary investigation, the police have found that more than Rs 110 crore 30 lakhs were transacted through 140 bank accounts. In addition, the police have received information that Rs 75 crore 36 lakhs were transacted through 52 accounts. In this incident, the police have arrested 20 people and issued legal notices to 32 people.
Similarly, the police have successfully busted an inter-state cricket betting syndicate operating in the Bandhmunda police station area of ​​Rourkela police district. While this illegal betting business was going on based on the T-20 World Cup match, the police have raided and arrested 6 accused. Cash worth Rs 30.65 lakh, a Mahindra Thar vehicle, 2 laptops and 7 expensive mobile phones have been seized from them. Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused are cheating the common people by luring them with high profits through an online gaming app called “Silver Exchange”.
Similarly, Jharsuguda district police have busted an organised cyber syndicate. 15 people have been arrested and 8 have been issued notices in this case. The accused have opened ‘mule accounts’ in the names of various people and made illegal financial transactions worth around Rs 5.27 crore.
In this operation, Angul district police checked 1 anonymous account, registered 1 cyber case and arrested 1 person. Jharsuguda district police checked 33 anonymous accounts, registered 5 cases related to Mule Bank accounts and 1 case related to cheque withdrawal, arrested 16 people and issued a legal notice to 1 person.
Similarly, Kandhamal district police have registered two cyber cases after checking 12 anonymous accounts. Legal notices have been issued to 11 people in new and 6 old cases. Kendrapara district police have registered one case after checking 2 anonymous accounts and arrested 2 people.
Keonjhar district police have investigated six anonymous accounts, registered one case related to Mule Bank account and two cases related to cheque withdrawal, and arrested three people. They have issued notices to five people in new and four old cases.
Nabarangpur district police have checked 8 anonymous accounts and registered 1 case. They have issued notices to 7 people in new and 4 old cases. Similarly, Sundargarh district police have checked 15 anonymous accounts and registered 2 cases and issued legal notices to 4 people. Dhenkanal district police have checked 6 anonymous accounts and registered 1 case.
Similarly, Kalahandi district police have checked 16 anonymous accounts and issued notices to 14 people in an old case. Boudh district police have checked 6 anonymous accounts and issued notices to 6 people in an old case, and have also registered a case related to cheque bounce. Benami accounts have also been checked in Gajapati, Koraput, Mayurbhanj, Cuttack (UPD) and Malkangiri districts and legal notices have been issued in the related old cases. Ganjam district police have checked 78 anonymous accounts and Subarnapur district police have checked 19 anonymous accounts. Bargarh district police have checked 12 anonymous accounts and registered 2 cases related to fake SIMs.
So far, a total of 1,166 benami bank accounts have been checked across the state under ‘Operation Cyber ​​Kabbach’. Along with this, 82 cyber cases related to benami bank accounts, 5 related to cheque withdrawal and 3 related to fake SIM PoS have been registered. A total of 84 accused have been arrested. Legal notices have been issued to 293 suspected account holders and accomplices related to the new cases and 29 old FIRs.
Odisha Police is always committed to ensuring the digital security of the people of the state by cracking down on the financial dealings of cyber criminals. DGP Shri Khurania informed that this campaign will be further intensified in the coming days to completely crack down on the financial dealings of cyber criminals.
