BHUBANESWAR: Chairman of Odisha Forest Development Corporation Ltd and senior IAS officer Gagan Dhal on Monday opted   for voluntary retirement from service. The Odisha government has approved his application, sources said.

Dhal, who was deprived of becoming Odisha’s Chief Secretary by the Naveen Patnaik Government in place of incumbent Asit Tripathy considering seniority, sought for retirement in the personal ground.

Dhal was hoping for Chief Secretary post while Naveen led BJD Government had preferred Tripathy earlier in August this year.

After Dhal had expressed his anguish, Patnaik Government declared OFDC Chairman post as equivalent in status and responsibility to that of the Chief Secretary.

Earlier, speculations were ripe in August this year that Dhal might resign from service but he opted to continue as OFDC chairman.
