BHUBANESWAR: Chief Justice of Orissa High Court Dr Justice Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi administered oath to Raghubar Das as Governor of Odisha in a swearing-in ceremony at Raj Bhavan in the presence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and dignitaries. Later the new Governor Das was given a Guard of Honour.
Das was former Chief Minister Jharkhand and was BJP’s National Vice President till his appointment as Odisha Governor.
Odisha Assembly speaker Pramila Mallick, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan , State Ministers BK Arukha, Ranedra Pratap Swain, Pradeep Amat, Chief Secretary PK Jena, DGP SK Bansal, Chiarman 5T and Nabin Odisha, VK Pandian, MPs and MLAs of BJD , BJP and Congress and others were among those present.
On October 18, President of India Droupadi Murmu appointed Raghubar Das, the former Chief Minister of Jharkhand, as the Governor of Odisha, replacing Professor Ganeshi Lal, whose five-year tenure ended in May this year.
Born on May 3, 1955, in Jamshedpur, Das was elected to the Bihar Legislative Assembly for the first time in 1995. He won the seat five times before becoming the Chief Minister of Jharkhand. He served Jharkhand as the 6th Chief Minister from 2014 to 2019.
He was the Deputy Chief Minister of Jharkhand for a brief period from December 30, 2009 to May 29, 2010.
