NEW DELHI/BHUBANESWAR: BJD Rajya Sabha MP and national spokesperson Amar Dr Amar Patnaik on Saturday said that the SDG index is not a political report and should not be used to play dirty politics or score brownie points.
“The report should be used for fostering more development. We should strive to remove data inconsistencies so that we get the correct picture of where we are in the achievement of SDG goals for the country as a whole. SDGs are national goals vis-a-vis the entire world. Both Centre as well as all the states must work together to achieve the national goals so as to be an example before the international community. Hope Odisha BJP and its leaders develop the intellectual depth to understand this well,” said MP Dr Patnaik.
Odisha recorded poor in the Niti Aayog’s Sustainable Development Goals India Index 2020-21.The index, developed in collaboration with the UN, measures the progress at the national and sub-national level in India’s journey towards meeting global goals and targets. It has been successful as an advocacy tool to propagate the messages of sustainability, resilience, and partnerships.
BJP Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha MP and national spokesperson Aparajita Sarangi said the ruling dispensation had done nothing over the past several years to improve the condition of women and children and raise the standard of living of the marginalised sections of the populace.“After 21 years of BJD rule, why is 33 per cent of Odisha below poverty line? While 14. 2 per cent families in Odisha stay in kutcha houses. There 103.5 women per lakh population who become the victim of a crime, this is one of the highest rates of crime against women in the country. The conviction rate is just 8.3 percent. In child pornography, we are the worst in the country. About 48 per cent of our women are anaemic, while around 29 per cent of children under the age of five are stunted or underweight,” BJP MP Sarangi alleged.
