BHUBANESWAR:Ref: Saheednagar PS Case No. 03, dated 03.01.2026, U/s 281/105 BNS. PO: Near Rupali Square traffic signal, PS-Saheednagar, Bhubaneswar UPD, Dist-Khordha.
Gist of the Case:
Based on the written report of the complainant Manoj Kumar Patra , the above case was registered and investigation was initiated.
It is pertinent to mention that today, on 03.01.2026, at around 12.30 PM, the deceased Vishnu Charan Patra (58 years) was travelling in an auto-rickshaw towards Banibihar Chowk. While waiting at the traffic signal at Rupali Chowk, the accused driver Suchit Kumar Sahu (our bus driver) intentionally, knowingly and with knowledge of the possible fatal consequences, drove the bus at a high speed and hit the auto-rickshaw from behind.
Due to the impact, the auto-rickshaw was pushed forward and collided with another bus standing in front. As a result, the auto-rickshaw driver Vishnu Charan Patra and another passenger Anita Pradhan were seriously injured. Both were immediately shifted to the Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar.
At the hospital, Medical Officer Vishnu Charan declared Patra dead, while injured passenger Anita Pradhan is undergoing treatment. During the investigation, the scene was visited, witnesses were examined and their statements were recorded. An inquest was held on the body and a post-mortem examination was conducted.
The driving style, the extent of the impact, the witness statements and the surrounding circumstances make it clear that the accused driver acted with clear intent and knowledge of the fatal consequences. The investigation has revealed that this incident was not merely accidental or negligent, but was the result of a deliberate and intentional act.
As the prima facie evidence has been firmly established, the accused has been produced in court today after completing all legal formalities. Further investigation into the case is ongoing.
