BHUBANESWAR: Saffron surge in Odisha brings nightmare for Naveen Patnaik. 71% voters exercised their franchise in the first-phase of the three-tier panchayat polls in the state, informed State Election Commissioner (SEC) Rabi Narayan Senapati here on Monday.

The SEC said while Sonepur district recorded maximum polling of 84.3%, Bolangir district recorded the lowest with 60%.

In yet another incident of violence related to the ongoing panchayat polls in Odisha, cars of former Congress MLA Rabi Mallick and his two supporters were allegedly torched by opposition party workers at Podana village under Kapasi panchayat in Niali block of Cuttack district on Monday night.
