BHUBANESWAR/CUTTACK: Tens of thousands were on Tuesday night witnessed the much talked about ‘Ravan Podi’ at Baramunda, Nayapalli, Jharpada and Naharkanta areas Bhubaneswar while the famous Sahid Nagar Puja Committee refrained from it.
‘Ravan Podi’, the last leg of Dussehra celebrations was held in amid great fanfare and the occasion commemorates the triumph of good over evil. Giant effigies of Demon King Ravan were set ablaze during the occasion.
Rajya Sabha MP Prasanna Acharya took part in ‘Ravan Podi’ ustav in Sakhi Pada in Sambalpur whereas BJP MP Jual Oram torched the effigy of demon king Ravan in Sector-3 of Rourkela.
A minor boy was injured critically after the effigy of demon king Ravan during the preparation for ‘Ravan Podi’ fell on him in Kandetara village under Komna police limits in Nuapada district today afternoon.
Hindu mythology has it that Lord Ram killed demon king Ravan on the day after offering his prayers to Goddess Durga. As per Hindu mythology, Goddess Durga also emerged victorious on this day over demon king Mahishasura after a nine-night and ten-day long battle.
With Dussehra coming to an end, the Commissionerate of Police has rolled up its sleeves for immersion of the idols on Wednesday.While managing traffic is a major challenge during immersion, the police have made elaborate arrangements to ensure smooth conduct of the ceremonial procession.
