The Chariots of Shree Lord Jagannath, his Siblings Shree Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra could not reach the destination, Saradhabali , aunt’s house as the pulling of three chariots was stopped after the evening set in on Sunday in Odisha’s pilgrimage city of Puri.

PURI/BHUBANESWAR:   The Chariots of Shree Lord Jagannath, his Siblings Shree Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra could not reach the destination, Saradhabali , aunt’s house as the pulling of  three chariots  was stopped after the evening set in on Sunday in Odisha’s pilgrimage city of Puri.

Pulling of Chariots, which had begun at around 4.50 PM and stopped at around 6.45 PM in the evening amid lakhs of devotees had thronged the Grand Road to participate in the chariot pulling.

With the evening set in, the chariot pulling was stopped as it is prohibited to roll the chariots at night, according to the customs. While Taladhwaja was stopped at Marichikote Chhak, Darpadalana was halted near Srikrishna Cinema Hall. Nandighosa could be pulled for a short distance from Singhadwar (Lions Gate) in front of the temple before applying brake to the chariot for the day.

The Taladhwaja chariot of Lord Balabhadra was pulled first. Taladhawaja was followed by Darpadalan chariot of Devi Subhadra. Lord Jagannath’s Nandighosh chariot was the last chariot to be pulled by the sea of devotees.

However, the pulling of three chariots will resume on Monday. The Lords will go to Gundicha temple as part of their nine-day annual sojourn.

Earlier, after the completion of ceremonial ‘Pahandi Bije’ at around 2.20 PM, and end of Chera Pahara , (Sweeping ceremony) by Puri Gajaati Maharaj Dibya Singh Deb at around 4.40 PM, Pulling of magnificent and majestic Chariots of Shree Lord Jagannath and his Siblings Shree Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra had began at around 4.50 PM.

Chariots of Lord Jagannath and his siblings – Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra were ceremoniously pulled by tens of thousands of devotees throng to this pilgrimage city of Odisha in eastern India.
