Proposed Steel Plant in Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi’s Home Turf Keonjhar deliberated at Biannual General Meeting of the World Steel Association held at Australia

BHUBANESWAR:   The joint effort of Odisha Government and as well as Chief Minister Mohan Charan for a Steel plant in mineral rich Keonjhar is likely to get success if things moved in right direction.

The proposed Steel Plant in Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi’s Home Turf Keonjhar figured at Biannual General Meeting of the World Steel Association held at Australia, highly placed industry sources said on Tuesday .

POSCO Group Chairman Chang In-hwa met with Jayant Acharya, chief executive of India’s JSW Steel, and Liu Jian, chairman of China’s HBIS Group, in separate meetings during his visit to Australia for a biannual general meeting of the World Steel Association.

Especially, Chang and Acharya discussed the two companies’ joint project to build an integrated steel mill in India including in Keonjhar.

Mega steel plant with an investment of around Rs 40,000 crore will be jointly set up by JSW and POSCO is coming up in Keonjhar district’s Patna area.

In October last year, the JSW Group and South Korean steel giant POSCO had signed an MoU to set up an integrated steel plant in India with an initial capacity of 5 MTPA.

On January 28, during the ‘Utkarsh Odisha-Make in Odisha Conclave,’ the JSW Group, led by Sajjan Jindal, signed an MoU with the Odisha government to establish a 5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) steel plant in Keonjhar.
