CUTTACK/BHUBANESWAR: Backed by able leadership of DGP Abhay, Crime Branch of Odisha Police manned by two more flamboyant IPS officers, read ADGP(CID-Crime Branch) Soumendra Priyadarshi of 1995 batch and DIG(STF) JN Pankaj of 2005 batch, Drug Peddlers in Odisha continued to spend sleepless nights with Odisha Police successfully tracking their illegal network right from Balasore bordering West Bengal to State Capital of Bhubaneswar.
The drive against narcotics is underway in the State. So far, the STF alone has seized 22.168 kg brown sugar, registered 24 cases and arrested 44 drug peddlers since January 1, 2020. Nearly about 30 kg brown sugar has been seized across Odisha this year.
ADGP Priyadarshi said on Saturday while addressing a press meet that the Special Task Force (STF) seized over 1 kg brown sugar and arrested one accused person in connection with illegal trade of narcotic drugs near Baramunda Bus Stand in Bhubaneswar.The accused person has been identified as SK Hasim Bux from Balasore district.
ADGP CID-CB said accused hails from Jaleswar area in Balasore district and nabbed with a gunny bag containing brown sugar while he was trying to check the contraband here. In this connection, the STF PS case has been registered under section 21(c)29 NDPS Act, 1985. The accused drug dealer will be forwarded to a court here today.
Based on an intelligence input, an STF team intercepted a person on outskirts of Bhubaneswar yesterday and recovered 1.170 kg brown sugar from his possession, said Soumendra Priyadarshi, Additional Director General (ADG) of Police (crime branch and law & order).
