BHUBANESWAR: The Possibility of BJD-BJP Coalition in Odisha looks grim after the two parties failed to reach at a conclusion over seat sharing till Friday afternoon, sources said.
In last 2019 polls, BJP had won 8 Lok Sabha seat and 23 Assembly seats in Odisha with BJD having 12 Parliamentary seats and 112 Assembly seats.
Some demands of BJD were not accepted by BJP while BJP’s some demand also not accepted by BJD, for which, stalemate still continues over seat sharing.
BJP insisting on 14 Lok Sabha seats including Bhubaneswar seat while the Saffron Party wants around 50 to 52 seats in Assembly, to which, BJD not agreed yet.
Chief Minister and BJD Supremo’s spin doctors, 5T-Nabin Odisha Chairman VK Pandian and Organisation general secretary Pranab Prakash Das were camping at New Delhi since Thursday evening to finalise the seat sharing issue but when they heard the demands of BJP central leadership, they reportedly rejected it.
BJP central leadership struck to its demand following stiff resistance from its State unit. State unit strongly opposing any alliance with BJD and it conveyed very clearly to the central leadership. State BJP feels, amid Modi wave, the party could do better in Odisha 2024. State unit leaders clearly apprised to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Party National president JP Nadda and others about Party’s rise in the State.
Obviously, both parties will try to safeguard their paramount interests and for which, seat sharing talks may fail, sources said.
