NEW DELHI/BHUBANESWAR/KOLKATA: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday reviewed the situation in the wake of cyclone conditions and heavy rain in parts of Eastern India. He also spoke to Chief Minister of West Bengal Ms. Mamata Banerjee regarding the situation arising due to Cyclone Bulbul and assured all possible assistance from the Centre.
“Reviewed the situation in the wake of cyclone conditions and heavy rain in parts of Eastern India. Spoke to WB CM @MamataOfficial regarding the situation arising due to Cyclone Bulbul. Assured all possible assistance from the Centre. I pray for everyone’s safety and well-being,” the PM twitted.
Meanwhile, the Bulbul cyclone is moving northeastwards into the neighbouring country over the Sunderban delta, according to the IMD report.
The severe cyclonic storm Bulbul made landfall on Saturday midnight between Sagar Islands of West Bengal and Khepupara in Bangladesh killing two people.
Nearly 100,000 people from its low-lying coastal villages and islands were evacuated as Cyclone Bulbul crossed the coast of West Bengal with a maximum wind speed of 110-120 km per hour gusting up to 120 km per hour into Bangladesh.
Reports said the ferry services were suspended at Bichali Ghat in Kolkata due to the influence of cyclonic storm.
The IMD bulletin said: “It is very likely to move east-northeastwards across Bangladesh. It is likely to weaken into a Deep Depression over coastal Bangladesh and neighbourhood during the next six hours and into a Depression during subsequent six hours”.
In Odisha, costal districts of Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak and Balasore were badly hit with paddy crops badly damaged at many places.
