NEW DELHI/BHUBANESWAR: The Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday expressed his grief and condoled the death of Gita Mehta, versatile writer and elder sister of Odisha, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik,
‘I am saddened by the passing away of noted writer Smt. Gita Mehta Ji. She was a multifaceted personality, known for her intellect and passion towards writing as well as film making. She was also passionate about nature and water conservation. My thoughts are with @Naveen_Odisha Ji and the entire family in this hour of grief. Om Shanti,’ PM said in a X Post.

‘Deeply pained and anguished due to the passing away of eminent author, documentary film maker, and journalist Smt. Gita Mehta. She was the daughter of legendary leader Shri. Biju Patnaik and elder sister of Hon’ble Chief Minister of Odisha Shri Naveen Patnaik. She was married to renowned American publisher Late Sonny Mehta. Born in 1943 to Shri. Biju Patnaik and Smt.Gyan Patnaik in Delhi, she had her education in India and University of Cambridge UK. She had penned five books Karma Cola, Snake and ladders, A River Sutra, Raj and The Eternal Ganesha.I deeply mourn her passing away and pray that may her soul rest in peace,’ BJD MP Dr Sasmit Patra said.
