NEW DELHI/BHUBANESWAR: The Prime Minister Narendra Modi, before leaving for Odisha’s held a high-level meeting with railway officials regarding the worst ever rail accident that claimed over 238 lives and injured 700 people.
The Prime Minister’s Office tweeted:“PM Narendra Modi chaired a meeting to take stock of the situation in the wake of the train mishap in Odisha. Aspects relating to rescue, relief and medical attention to those affected were discussed in the review meeting.”“PM Narendra Modi is leaving for Odisha where he will review the situation in the wake of the train mishap.”
Home Minister Amit Shah, Principal Secretary to PM, Dr Pramod Mishra, Union Home Secretary, NDRF DG, senior Railway Officials were present in the meeting. The PM was briefed about the mishap and rescue operation.
Three trains including two passenger trains- Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, the Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express- were involved. A goods train and two passenger trains had collided after one of the train’s coaches derailed.
