PIL Seeking Cancellation of IND-SA T20 Cricket Match quashed in Orissa HC

CUTTACK/BHUBANESWAR: A PIL filed by Sanjay Nayak of Bhuban area in Dhenkanal district, seeking cancellation of India-South Africa T20I match scheduled to be played at the iconic Barabati Stadium here on June 12 , on Tuesday quashed  in Orissa High Court.

Nayak had filed a PIL in the HC claiming that the Barabati Stadium lacks adequate fire safety measures. He had sought the order of the court for the cancellation of the match while his petition was quashed by the Court bringing relief for the host Odisha Cricket Association.

Earlier,  the Odisha Human Rights Commission, acting on a petition filed by Nishikanta Mishra, had recently sought a report from concerned authorities regarding the fire safety measures at the Barabati Stadium.

OCA President Pankaj Lochan Mohanty and Secretary Sanjay Behera have said that adequate fire safety arrangements will be made at the stadium to avoid any untoward incident during the international match.

Both President Mohanty and Secretary Behera have sought cooperation from all quarters for the smooth conduct of this mega event.

It may be noted here that , Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Monday purchased the first ticket of the upcoming T 20 international match between India and South Africa at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on June 12.

OCA President Pankaj Lochan Mohanty and Secretary Sanjay Behera met the Chief Minister Patnaik and gave him ticket at Naveen Niwas.

Both OCA President Mohanty and Secretary Behera briefed the CM about the elaborate arrangements made for the smooth sale of tickets. Secretary to CM VK Pandian was present on the occasion.
