BHUBANESWAR: The BJP leader Maneka Gandhi led People for Animal has written to Odisha Chief Secretary and Secretary, FARD, seeking their intervention to the problem faced by stray animals in Bhubaneswar, particularly thousands of money, who stays at Khandigiri-Udaygiri Caves here in view of the outbreak of COVID-19.
In a letter to CS and FARD Secretary, PFA State Chief JB Das informed that that Animal Welfare Body has been working 24×7 for the animals affected due to lockdown but it was unfortunate that till there no response from State Government.
“Animals are starving on the street as all food sources closed. We are feeding Monkeys in Khandagiri- Udayagiri. Feeding dogs, Cattle, birds in different parts of Bhubaneswar. Besides we have looking after 300 animals in our shelter. But till now FARD has not done anything for the animals affected. Vet services also not provided. Sahid Nagar helpline not responding. How is it possible for One organisation with limited Manpower, limited sources to feed all animals starving in and around Bhubaneswar,” Das said.
FARD should issue feeder pass to volunteers or directed home department to pass issue. More and more volunteers should involved at this critical time to save animals. FARD should categorise under “CRITICAL” Around 16-20 thousand dogs are in Capital City. I found in a survey dogs are becoming furious without food which may lead to danger to human life.
PFA State Chief demanded that the State Government should involve Vet, L I , Paravet & other staffs to feed animals under different vet hospitals, L I centre’s in Odisha.
“The Government should issue feeder pass to volunteers to feed more and more animals starving. In every district Animal Ambulance provided should use for feeding and vet services at this critical time.It should directed Home Department to issue Vehicle pass to transport fodder/feed,” Das added.
“Feed and fodder support to the Registered Animal Welfare organisation working for animals at this emergency. I request take this issue very serious failing which we may face another disaster,” he said.
