NEW DELHI/BHUBANESWAR: Union PNG-Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Monday came down heavily on Congress led Oppositions for opposing the Farms Bill that was passed in both Houses of Parliament. In a Facebook post, Union Minister Pradhan while sharing a cartoon, alleged that the passage of the #FarmBills in the Parliament have exposed the hypocrisy and anti-farmer face of the opposition.

“It is no surprise Indian National Congress is at the forefront of opposing these reforms, the one thing they have been consistent in, post 2014, is opposing everything that Modi govt. does, even if that comes at the cost of taking back their words and making a U-turn on their own promises. It is SAD that many of our friends from other political parties who have often masqueraded as champions of farmer issues have chosen to look the other way when it really mattered,” Dharmendra Pradhan wrote.

“For them protecting their own interests was more important than that of our farmers.PM Shri Narendra Modi has worked with an iron will to remove colonial era laws and abolish license raj in the country.Removing bottlenecks and steering reforms, #ModiGovt has fulfilled aspirations as well as long-standing demands of the people of our country,” Pradhan said.

“The momentous reforms in the agriculture sector will liberate and empower our farmers. Inspite of the myths propagated on the #FarmBills by dozens of farmer leaders in the opposition, 130 crore citizens will once again call out the bluff of these arm-chair activists,” the Union Minister added.

“This double character of the opposition has been exposed to the whole country today. The unlimited and unfortunate behavior by some reputable MPs has shamed the country’s glorious democratic traditions. Is this kind of behavior fair by the representatives? The behavior of the main opposition party Indian National Congress MPs in Parliament is clearly an indescribable effort to please a family. This is also a fight between Sonia ji’s oldguard and Yuvraj supporters. Some of the main architects of the G-23 who wanted a change in Congress leadership some time ago, the way MPs have behaved unparalleledly, the definition of democracy for them is just the achievement of their own interests and a family. It is limited to sycophancy. The war of supremacy in Congress is now ready to stigmatize the parliamentary limitations. These are the interests of farmers and poor workers. There is no concern from,” he said.

The Parliament had on Sunday passed two bills aimed at transforming agriculture in the country and raising farmers’ incomes. The Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020 and The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020 which were passed by Lok Sabha on 17th September 2020, were passed by the Rajya Sabha also .

The Bills were introduced in Lok Sabha on 14th September 2020 by Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Rural Development & Panchayati Raj,  Narendra Singh Tomar, to replace ordinances promulgated on 5th June 2020.
