Outlawed Leftwing Ultras Fleeing from Kandhamal after Odisha Police Intensified Anti-Maoists Operations

BHUBANESWAR: Backed by morale boosting from Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla coupled with able leadership of Odisha DGP, Abhay, outlawed Leftwing Ultras, who had made southern districts of Kandhamal bordering Ganjam and Gajapti , 2 districts excluded from LWE-SRE list, as their safe heaven, now started feeling from the jungles after the meticulously designed anti-Maoists Operations carried out at a regular intervals by the elite SOGs of the State of Police resulted huge damaged to rebels’ camp, sources closing monitoring the Operations said on Saturday.

Police claimed that the Maoists have been demoralized following intensive combing operations by the security forces. In last 20 days, security men have so far gun down as many as 6 Maoists cadres including few women and recovered arms and ammunitions from their possessions because of a coordinated efforts from Intelligence Wing and Operations Wings, sources further said.

With Director Intelligence Radha Krishan Sharma, DIG (SIW-SOG) Anirudha Singh and DIG(Intelligence) Anup Sahoo giving timely imputes to Police Headquarters’ manned by DGP Abhay, the most active , IGP(Operations) Amitabh Thakur flanked by two Range DIGs including Satyabrata Bhoi of Southern(Berhampur) and Safeen Ahmed of South-Western(Sunabeda), with additional support from SPs of Koraput Mukesh Kumar Bhamoo, Dr. Saravana Vivek M of Rayagada, Vinit Agrawal of Kandhamal and Rishikesh Dnyandeo Khilari of Malkangiri, now giving sleepless nights to leftwing ultras.

Impressed by the Operations, DGP himself flown to Kandhamal and reviewed anti-Maoist operations in the district a day after 2 Maoists were gunned down by SOG and DVF personnel, sources added. The senior officials discussed the strategy to counter Maoists menace in the district. SP Vineet Agarwal briefed the senior officials on the preparedness and strategy of district police to combat the Left Wing Extremists (LWEs).

DGP appealed to the Ultras to surrender with the police and join the mainstream. Thirteen  Maoists had surrendered last year, while this year till this month 19 more have given up arms. The DGP expressed hope that the number of surrenders will increase by the end of the 2020 as the Odisha govt has a generous surrender and rehabilitation policy.

A total 11 districts have so far been assessed to be free of Maoist activities in a span of two years, largely due to the impact of security response and good governance by the Naveen Patnaik Government. Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam,Angul, Boudh, Sambalpur, Deogarh and Nayagarh have been excluded from LWE affected SRE Districts.

The security situations under North-Central range headquarters at Talcher, Northern Range at Sambalpur, and Central at Cuttack however improving but situation continued to remain tense under South-Western headquarters at Sunabeda  and Southern at Berhampur, which houses most of the highly leftwing insurgency hit districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada and Kandhamal.After the arrest of Maoists’ leader Sabyasachi Panda, Maoists activities on Nayagarh zone have been totally vanished.
