CUTTACK: On Wednesday High Court, Orissa, Cuttack upheld the judgement of conviction passed by Hon. Special Judge Vigilance., Bhubaneswar against Md. Moquim, MD, M/s Metro Builders Pvt. Ltd. in a corruption case by Odisha Vigilance vide BBSR Vigilance PS Case No.7/05.
On 29.09.2022, Md. Moquim, MD, M/s Metro Builders Pvt. Ltd., along with others, was convicted by Hon’ble Special Judge Vigilance, Bhubaneswar to 3 years jail and to pay fine of Rs.50,000/-.
He may not qualify to contest the Assembly Elections unless his conviction is stayed by Supreme Court. The Cuttack Barabati MLA as the MD of Metro Builders had availed a loan of Rs 1.5 crore in 2000 .The unpaid amount in 2007 had increased to more than Rs 6 crore.
Supreme Court on September 22, 2023 ordered HC to dispose off the appeal within a period of 6 months from the date of order
