BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha Human Rights Commission on Tuesday sought a report from DG, Prisons, Director Correctional Service and SP Bolangir within 15 days after taking cognizance of the matter suo motu.
OHRC said, a news telecast today in all most all electronic media regarding suicidal death of a UTP, names Gobinda Sahu inside the Kanatabanji Jail , who is allegedly an accused in sensational murder case of Mamita Meher has the drawn the attention of the Commission
“Since it is a case of custodial death, considering the gravity of the incident, Commission takes cognizance of the matter suo motu,” the OHRC said. The next hearing will be on January 10, 2023.
Meanwhile, Gobinda Sahu’s wife Sushma Sahu said “My husband has been murdered. He was a strong man and cannot die by suicide. If so, he would have committed it before; why did he wait for one year to end his life?”. She lodged a complaint at the Kegaon Police Station alleging pre-planned murder by the administration in judicial custody.
Taking quick action in the matter, Odisha DGP ordered crime branch probe into suicidal death of Gobinda Sahu.
