BHUBANESWAR:On Monday Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi provided several written replies to questions in the Odisha Legislative Assembly, covering key issues like immigration enforcement, crime trends, anti-corruption efforts, and other governance matters. These were primarily in response to starred/unstarred questions from MLAs, rather than a single major speech.
Here are the main details from his replies reported today:
Bangladeshi Infiltrators: The state identified 77 illegal Bangladeshi immigrants across various districts. Of these, 73 have been deported. This followed directives from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (dated May 2, 2025) to superintendents of police to expedite identification. Initially, thousands were screened, but 2,184 were confirmed as Indian citizens and released. This was in a written reply to BJP MLA Padma Lochan Panda.
Decline in Crime Rate: Majhi informed the Assembly that overall crime levels have shown a downward trend, particularly from July 2024 to December 2025. Reductions were noted in serious crimes like rape, murder, and offenses against women.
Vigilance Action Against Corruption: The Odisha Vigilance department arrested 310 government officials and seized assets worth Rs 40.84 crore over the past 5 years. This was shared in replies to questions from legislators Ranendra Pratap Swain and Amar Nayak.
Other Mentions: Additional replies included details on central sector scheme (CSS) funds received (Odisha got the highest at Rs 15,685 crore in 2023-24, in response to MLA Ramesh Chandra Behera), traffic fines collected in Bhubaneswar-Cuttack (Rs 76.94 crore over 3 years from violations), cases against drunken drivers, and related enforcement stats.
These updates reflect the BJP-led government’s focus on security, law and order, anti-corruption, and fiscal transparency during the ongoing Assembly session (which follows the recent presentation of the 2026-27 Budget on February 20).
