Odisha Train Mishap-Father-Son Duo Re-Union left Doctors-Nurses Speechless at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar

BHUBANESWAR:  Subash Majumdar of Uttar Barbil under Hawraghat Police limits of Assam’s Karbi Anglong district has lost all his hopes to locate his son, Dulal Majumdar, since the Bahanaga Rail accident took place at Odisha’s Balasore district, killing 288 and leaving more than 1200 injured on June 2.

But Subash was proved wrong because Odisha Government led by Naveen Patnaik and Union Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, kept his hopes alive and finally, father son duo experienced a reunion at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar on Saturday. Dulal was admitted at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar on June 3, a day after the tragic rail accident.

Dulal, rescued from unfortunate Balasore Train mishap and today he met his Father at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar,  which created an emotional atmosphere in this premier medical institution and left doctors, nurses and medical staffs speechless.

Dulal’s Father Subash came to AIIMS-Bhubaneswar from his place with coordination from AIIMS officials and finally he reached at AIIMS and met his injured son undergoing treatment here. Both father and son thanked AIIMS-Bhubaneswar and Odisha Government for the help.

Dulal Majumdar was referred from Balasore and was admitted with traumatic brain injury with frontal contusion and subdural Hematoma . He was initially conscious but confused . Patient was kept under close observation with medications . However as there was clinical deterioration and increase in brain swelling and masse effect on repeat scan , patient was taken for surgery . Decompressive craniectomy and Hematoma evacuation was done .

 Patient improved following surgery and was weaned off from ventilator and extubated . Patient is now stable and shifted to ward and is able to speak and now recognise his father who has reunited with him today.All treatment was free of cost and patient is responding well to treatment

Sources said , pro-active role played by AIIMS- Bhubaneswar ED , Dr Ashutosh Biswas, President Dr AK Bisoi, Medical Superintendent Dr Dilip Parida in dealing with the injured of rail mishap and dispatching dead bodies to relatives and providing time bound medical treatment to admitted passengers , has been highly appreciated.

Till date, AIIMS-Bhubaneswar received 162 dead bodies, of which, 81 handed over to relatives, 81 preserved , and 68 DNA sample collected from claimants.
