BHUBANESWAR:Odisha Police has achieved a great success in the Maoist suppression campaign today. 22 Maoists have surrendered in the presence of State Security Director General Shri Yogesh Bahadur Khurania at the Malkangiri District Police Office and have joined the mainstream of society. Among the Maoists who surrendered, one Divisional Committee Member (DCM), 06 Area Committee Members (ACM) and party members are included. Apart from this, 10 women cadre Maoists are among them.
Along with this, 01 AK-47 rifles, 02 INSAS rifles, 7.62 mm SLR rifles, 3 .303 rifles and 02 single-shot rifles, 150 rounds of live ammunition, 9 magazines, 20 kg of explosives, 13 IEDs and other items were handed over to the police.
The Maoists who surrendered are: DCM, Commander Linge alias Muye Madkam and ACM, Commander, Baman Madkam, Area Committee Member (ACM), Sukka Muchaki, Aitu Aulami, Kosa Kabasi, Bati Madkam alias Anju, Jogi Muchaki, Rita Podiam, Jogi Sodi, Bhime Kalmu, Mangali Banjami, Joga Muchaki, Adme Muchaki, Madvi Kosa, Kunjam Ura, Mada Madvi, Muchaki Adma, Deba Madvi, Arjun Madvi, 2 members of Special Zonal Committee of Andhra-Odisha Board Sagar alias Sanna Punem, Someya Medium and Anila alias Budri Medium of Gadchirli Area Committee.
As per the new surrender and rehabilitation policy of the state government, 22 surrendered cadres will be provided with an assistance of Rs 1 crore 84 lakh 25 thousand. Along with this, each of them has been provided with an assistance of Rs 25,000/-. Apart from this, Rs 25,000 will be provided for housing, marriage under the Antyodaya Griha Yojana, health insurance provided by the central or state government, free ration card and other facilities. The surrendered Maoists will be provided with all legal facilities, security and rehabilitation assistance as per the government’s rehabilitation policy.
The surrendered Maoists had been actively involved in violent activities, attacks on security personnel, destruction of roads and government property in various parts of the state for a long time. Some of them had serious cases registered against them in various police stations.
DGP Shri Khurania welcomed the decision of the Maoists to join the mainstream of society by trusting in the surrender and rehabilitation policy of the state government. He also expressed that the government will provide all possible help to them to lead a dignified life in the society. In addition, the DGP has appealed to them to abandon the path of violence and surrender before the police and lead a normal life.
On this occasion, Additional Director General of Security (Anti-Naxal Operations) Shri Sanjeev Panda, DIAG (SIW) Shri Akhileshwar Singh, DIAG (South) Dr. Kanwar Vishal Singh, District Magistrate Malkangiri, Shri Somesh Upadhyay, SP Malkangiri Shri Vinod Patil were prominently present.
