Odisha May Start Unlock Process as State’s COVID-19 Positivity Rate Falls to 10 Percent Only

BHUBANESWAR:  With Odisha’s COVID-19 positivity rate continued to decline and reached at a lowest of 10%, the Naveen Patnaik led Government here may consider the unlock process once the current lockdown period ended on June 17.

“If the decline trend continues, lockdown restrictions can be relaxed gradually,” said State Health Director Bijay Mohapatra on Saturday.

The lockdown in the State is already in force till June 17 since May 5. As the positivity rate was above 10%, the State Government extended the restrictions by two more weeks with effect from June 1 but with changes in positivity rate and death toll, the State Government may relax some restrictions, sources added.

Odisha also witnessed a further dip in its daily spike of COVID-19 cases with 7,395 persons testing positive for the virus in the last 24 hours. With this, the state’s total caseload surged to 8,06,094.

Of fresh cases detected from all 30 districts in Odisha, 4,169 are quarantine cases and remaining 3,226 are local contact cases, informed the State Information & Public Relation (I&PR) Department today.Total 70,313 samples were tested yesterday.

Khordha district continued to report over 1,000 cases as 1069 more persons contracted the virus. After Khordha, Cuttack and Jajpur recorded 868 and 516 cases, respectively.
