BHUBANESWAR: With second round of mining auction going on amid opposition from forest rights activists and green bodies, the Odisha Government on Tuesday approved development projects worth Rs 640.65 Crore for mining affected districts under Odisha Mineral Bearing Areas Development Corporation (OMBADC) fund.
The Board of Directors of OMBADC headed by Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra has approved the projects in the sectors including education, environment and sports for the mineral bearing districts.
Chief Executive Officer of the OMBADC, Uma Nanduri said that projects to the tune of Rs 533.40 crore has been approved for 889 secondary schools in Angul, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, Jajpur, Jharsuguda, Mayurbhanj and Sundargarh districts.
The board has also approved the proposal for development of multipurpose indoor stadiums estimated at a total cost of around Rs104.15 crore for 11 urban local bodies (ULBs) in the mining affected districts.These included nine municipalities namely Belpahar, Brajrajnagar, Anandpur, Barbil, Birmitrapur, Rajgangpur, Rourkela and Vyasnagar Municipality; and two NACs namely Champua and Joda.
