BHUBANESWAR: Odisha made another big splash at the ongoing 37th National Games in Goa securing yet another gold medal in the Rowing C Mix Double Sculls Event. Odisha finished in first place with a timing of 02:36.1, Punjab also finished with the exact same timing and thus shared the gold medal. The state of Odisha also continued to shine in the discipline of Canoeing and Kayaking with two silver medals in K4M-500m and K4W- 500m sprints as well.
Shagandeep Singh and Sanjukta Dungdung were the gold medalists in the Rowing C Mix Double Sculls Event. The K4 men’s team comprised Tomthilnganba Ngashepam, Thongam Rahul Singh, Kh Nanao Meitei, and Suraj Bijale while the K4 women’s team featured Oinam Bidya Devi, Shruti Chougule, Roji Devi, and Fulmani Xaxa. Odisha currently has three medals in rowing and seven medals in Canoeing and Kayaking.
More success awaited Odisha as they also continued their winning streak in Kho-Kho with the women’s team defeating Delhi 28-18 while the men’s Kho-Kho team defeated Karnataka 50-42 to ensure that both teams sealed their berth in the semi-finals.
Notably, ahead of the National Games, Honourable Chief Minister, Shri Naveen Patnaik announced cash awards for Odisha’s medalists. As per the directive gold medalists will be awarded Rs. 5 Lakhs, silver medalists Rs. 3 Lakhs, and bronze medalists Rs. 2 Lakhs for both individual and team events.
