Odisha COVID-19 Positive cases reach at 44 as Lockdown extended till April 30

BHUBANESWAR/DHENKANAL: The Odisha Health and Family Welfare Department on Thursday informed that fresh two persons have been found positive with Covid-19. The 2 new COVID-19 positive cases confirmed included from 1 Dhenkanal town, female 51 years 1 patient of a Bhubaneswar based private hospital , male 69 years of Medinipur, WB, brought in ambulance directly from WB. Further details will be released during daily press briefing, a twit from State Health and Family Welfare Department said.

Dhenkanal Collector Bhumesh Chandra Behera informed that the 15 persons who had come in contact with a Tablighi Jamaat Markaz returnee in Dhenkanal have tested negative for coronavirus.

Following a thorough medical checkup, they have been allowed to return to their homes. However, they will remain in home isolation in order to eliminate any chances of community spread.

Dhenkanal Collector Bhumesh Chandra Behera on April 3 revealed that several persons, who had attended the Tablighi Jamaat Markaz event in south Delhi’s Nizammudin area earlier last month, are now in Odisha.

In a bid to trace coronavirus infected persons in Odisha, the state Health and Family Welfare Department has urged anyone associated with Nizamuddin Tablighi Jamaat to voluntarily call 104 & provide information.

As per reports, authorities have also requested any person having information about the persons present at the congregation to call 104 and alert them about the same.

With COVID-19 cases on rise and State engaged in relief and restoration works, the Odisha State Cabinet was on Thursday decided to extend the lockdown period till April 30.  

“Odisha Cabinet headed by CM @Naveen_Odisha decided to extend the state lockdown till April 30th  & recommended Union Government to extend the national lockdown till then. CM requested the GoI not to start train & air services during the lockdown,” the CMO twitted.

The Odisha CM said: “In view of the situation arising out of COVID-19, the state government today decided to extend the lockdown period till April 30.”The state cabinet has also given a proposal to Centre for extension of 21-day nationwide lockdown till April 30 to tackle the spread of COVID-19 in the country, he added.
