BHUBANESWAR: Odisha Congress’s Cuttack-Barabati MLA Mohammad Moquim has voted for Odisha’s daughter Draupadi Murmu in Presidential election on Monday. “I voted as per the dictates of my conscience”, said the Cuttack-Barabati MLA adding many people had approached him to cast his vote for Murmu. “She is first tribal woman and its pride for us,” he added.
Meanwhile, leading from the front, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday, cast their votes and hoped that NDA’s Droupadi Murmu, hailing from Odisha, emerged as winner for the Country’s top most post.
‘Voted in the 2022 Presidential elections,’ PM Modi said in a tweet. “It’s an honour to cast my vote for the #PresidentialElection. It is indeed a matter of pride for our state that the daughter of #Odisha, Smt. #DroupadiMurmu is a candidate for the highest office of our country. Wish her all the very best,” CM Patnaik said in a tweet after casting his vote in Bhubaneswar.
Draupadi Murmu is the NDA candidate, who is contesting against Yashwant Sinha, supported by the Opposition parties. The Rajya Sabha`s Secretary General is the Returning Officer for this election.
Nearly 4,800 elected MPs and MLAs across the country will cast their vote through secret ballot.Counting of votes will take place at Parliament House on July 21 and the next President will take oath on July 25.
The President is elected by the members of the Electoral College, comprising elected members of both houses of Parliament and legislative assemblies of all states as well as the National Capital Territory of Delhi and the Union Territory of Puducherry.
