BHUBANESWAR:  As part of the nationwide protest, Odisha Congress on Monday held a silent   protest demanding justice for farmers of Lakhimpur Kheri incident. PCC President Niranjan Patnaik, former Ministers Panchanan Kanungo, Sarat Rout and several senior leaders participated in the protest here.

Congress leaders  said that such violence against peaceful protesters was possible only in a dictatorship and not in a democracy. Congress leaders voiced their  dissatisfaction with the way the Uttar Pradesh police were handling the killing of 4 farmers and 4 others during a protest.

“Participated in #MaunVrat (vow of silence) organised by Congress party in BBSR against the cold-blooded murder of farmers in #LakhimpurKheri. The incident, and BJP govt’s shocking response to it, has shaken the conscience of the entire nation. We demand justice for our annadatas!,’’PCC Chief Niranjan Patnaik tweeted @NPatnaikOdisha.
