BHUBANESWAR: The Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting Odisha on June 20, and is expected to address a public meeting marking 1 year of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi led first ever BJP Government in the State.
Just 2 days before PM Modi’s visit, a social media post of Chief Minister Majhi on Wednesday morning apprehending threat to his Government and his CM chair, indicating a very severe internal turmoil in Odisha BJP.
The social media post came a day after BJP Odisha In charge Sunil Bansal held a meeting of Party office bearers in Bhubaneswar regarding PM’s visit and other organisational matters. Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan who was in Odisha, to attend a function in Balasore for Party’s ex MLA Late Madan Dutta, however not present in that meeting , which reviewed preparations for PM’s visit.
While a group close to Dharmendra Pradhan claimed that a new development will happen for BJP in Odisha, to which, some attributing it to the continuation of Manmohan Samal as Party’s State President while others batting that Dharmendra Pradhan will be the next BJP National president, while few others are in the view that, PM Modi may announce a new CM for Odisha in place of Mohan Charan Majhi, which looks remote.
Odisha BJP now divided into several groups led by Chief Minister Majhi, Party President Samal and Union Minister Pradhan while another Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw is leading the PMO lobby group, sources said.
Union Minister Pradhan and CM Majhi are not in good terms, it’s wide open in BJP and elsewhere. A section of BJP is not in favour of Manmohan Samal’s continuation as Party president while a section is also very critical to CM Majhi.
Many Dharmendra Pradhan close aides were thrown out from CMO while CM’s Private Secretary Manoj Sahoo and OSD Prasanna Sarangi are among those officer calling shots while Chief advisor Prakash Mishra is yet to hit headlines since he assumed the charge.
Just take a look at CM Majhi’s Wednesday morning post, which he had already mentioned about June 4 and June 12 , 2024, earlier the counting date and oath taking date but what provoked him to write again about his Government’s 1 year apprehending a possible threat, again on June 18. The timing and content of this post vindicating internal mudslinging in BJP.
CM Majhi said “We have been working with the blessings of Shree Lord Jagannath and the inspiration of PM Modi, no obstacle, discussion or criticism can stop us from serving you,” . CM Majhi forgetting his Government let free VK Pandian , the dubious Tamil born Ex IAS and his gang, which caused extensive damages to the 12th Century old Hindu shrine . Gajapati Maharaj days back, in a TV interview, expressed displeasure over the inordinate delay to form the new managing committee.
“I come from a poor tribal family. I have experienced poverty, need, sorrow and hardship since I was a child. After joining the National Volunteer Federation, I got the inspiration to dedicate my life to society and national service. Since then, I have been fighting and fighting continuously to solve your problems,” CM posted while senior Journalist like Ruben Banerjee claimed CM Majhi maintaining lavish life style , using private jets, staying at Deluxe Suits at the cost of tax payers money.
CM further said “ Years ago, you expressed your trust in me to serve the state and elected me as the first BJP Chief Minister of Odisha. Since becoming the Chief Minister, I have been making continuous efforts to solve the problems of all regions of the state and all sections of society and build a prosperous Odisha. Your support is my strength, your faith inspires me to work. We have been working with the blessings of Lord Sri Jagannath and the inspiration of the Prime Minister, no obstacle, discussion or criticism can stop us from serving you,”
During Mohan Charan Majhi’s 1 year term, Odisha lost 18% central funding while 20 auctioned mines are not yet operational , even though , these were auctioned between 2016 to 2023. But Government is planning to auction 30 more mines only to promote mining scam, it looks.
Government has constituted a state-level project monitoring and coordination committee for monitoring coal and non-coal projects and reviewing the status of operationalisation of the auctioned mining blocks, nothing happened yet.
Health services in as many as 10 districts are started to be very bad while Jajpur is worst among them with reports of near about 15 deaths in diarrhoea. A total of 196 patients are currently undergoing treatment at different healthcare facilities in Jajpur while entire administration busy for Janata Maidan function in Bhubaneswar slated for June 20. Liquor deaths also reported from Bhubaneswar Foreign liquor shop that indicating the Government’s functioning.

Instead getting into real issues, CM Majhi seems using his poor family background to win over people.
