BHUBANESWAR: The foundation stone laying ceremony for the new Odisha Niwas also referred to as Odisha Bhawan) took place on Thursday in New Delhi. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi led the event at Kautilya Marg, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi.
This marks the official start of construction for a modern state guest house and office complex. The old Odisha Bhawan was declared structurally unsafe in an April 2024 report by the Odisha Works Department and was demolished in late 2024.
The new building is designed to be modern, sustainable, and reflective of Odisha’s cultural and architectural heritage. It will serve as a guest house for dignitaries, officials, and visitors in Delhi’s diplomatic enclave. Features include a state-of-the-art conference hall and around 45 rooms (kothiri).
The ceremony was attended by Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram, Works, Law and Excise Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, Bargarh MP Pradeep Purohit and and other dignitaries.
This project aims to provide better facilities for Odisha’s representatives and visitors in the national capital.
