Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated annual Tribal Fair at exhibition ground, launched Shahid Madho Singh Program

BHUBANESWAR:  The annual Tribal Fair at the local exhibition grounds was on Sunday inaugurated by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.  Chief Minister said that this fair has become an integral part for those coming to Bhubaneswar and for the residents of Bhubaneswar. This year, overseas Indians will come to Bhubaneswar and see, know and experience the beauty of tribal culture. The Chief Minister said that this great festival of all tribals of Odisha will definitely gain fame on the world stage this time.

On this occasion, the great-grandson of Sahid Madho Singh, Lokeshwar Singh Bariha, graced the occasion. This year, this fair is being organized from January 5 to January 15, ahead of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas program.

Chief Minister also launched Shahid Madho Singh Program and said that this will help in increasing interest in education among tribal students and also reducing the drop out rate. Students belonging to the tribal community who have passed class 8 and are enrolled in class 9 and class 10 and are enrolled in class 11 will be given a one-time incentive of Rs. 5000 per annum.

 

Students who are studying in regular classes after being registered in the respective classes will benefit from this scheme. Today, 1.6 lakh students have received this incentive amount, and a total of more than 2 lakh tribal students will benefit from it, the Chief Minister said.

The Chief Minister said that the sacrifices and sacrifices of the tribals in the freedom struggle are unparalleled. The Chief Minister highlighted the struggle of Bhagwan Birsa Munda and Shaheed Madho Singh.

The Chief Minister said that he knows about the poverty of the tribals from his own experience. There is no need for ‘poor tourism’ for this. For this, I have prepared a draft work from the very first day. The Chief Minister said that the Madho Singh Scheme is the first reflection of this.

The Chief Minister said that the Prime Minister has brought back the historical heroes of the tribals, the Biranganas, from the lost pages of history and brought their bright image before the people. The Chief Minister said that celebrating the birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda as a national pride day is a good example of this.

It is worth noting that this year, the fair has 20 tribal huts, 147 stalls for sale, 15 places for live demonstrations, a food court, art and handicraft stalls, and a Bhagwan Birsa Munda Pavilion. Along with this, galleries related to the biography of Birsa Munda, the contribution of freedom fighters of the state and the country, a drawing exhibition, a mini theater and a photography exhibition are being organized in 5 galleries of Bhagwan Birsa Munda Pavilion.

A laser show based on the biography of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, a drone show based on the tribal community of Odisha, a light and sound show based on the tribal freedom fighters of Odisha, a fashion show and a ‘firework show’ are also being organized.

Minister for Scheduled Tribes and Caste Development, Minority and Backward Classes Welfare, School and Mass Education and Social Security and Empowerment of the Disabled, Nityanand Gand said that this year’s Tribal Mela is unique.

In this fair, tribal communities from every corner of Odisha have got an opportunity to sell their products. This Tribal Mela has provided a suitable platform to the tribal community. The organization of this fair will provide an international market to tribal products. If education develops among the tribal community, they will prosper. Shaheed Madho Singh Handicapped Scheme has been launched to mainstream tribal students. This scheme will reduce the drop out rate among the tribal community in the state and will help in encouraging them to pursue higher education.

Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi, Ekamra-Bhubaneswar MLA Shri Babu Singh delivered their keynote speeches.

Chief Minister honored 9 tribal talent awards and 10 tribal farmers. He released the edition of the journal ‘Banja-2025’ published by the Tribal Language and Culture Academy. During the fair, the Chief Minister visited the exhibition hall dedicated to the customs and traditions of various tribal communities and inaugurated the Bhagwan Birsa Munda Pavilion and Food Court in the fair premises.
