BHUBANESWAR: In a bid to encourage medical fraternity, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday felicitated the team of doctors from SCB Medical and Apollo Hospital who successfully conducted the 1st cadaveric kidney transplantation in Odisha saving lives of two ailing persons. “CM @Naveen_Odisha felicitated the team of doctors from SCB Medical and Apollo Hospital who successfully conducted cadaveric kidney transplantation saving lives of two. CM said it is a healthcare milestone in the state and promised to extend all help to encourage organ donation,” CMO twitted.
The Odisha CM met the team of doctors at Lok Seva Bhawan here this evening and congratulated them for the success of the operation. Patnaik said: “This first cadaveric kidney transplantation is a milestone in the healthcare services in Odisha.”The Chief Minister also promised to extend all help to encourage organ donation and said that mass awareness campaign will be organised to encourage organ donation. Notably, the State Government has instituted Suraj Award to promote organ donation.
On the occasion, Health Minister Naba Kishore Das also congratulated the team of doctors for the successful surgery.Besides, 5T Secretary VK Pandian said, “Organ donation is a noble deed which could save the lives of others. If needed, helicopter service will be also provided for the same.”
In the beginning, Health department Principal Secretary Nikunja Dhal informed about the surgery. Later, SCBMCH Urology dept Head Dr. Chittaranjan Kar and Apollo Hospital Nephrology dept Head Dr. Sameeran Das Adhikari detailed about the entire surgery process in the meeting. It was also apprised in the meeting that the two patients, on whom the surgery was performed, are healthy and sound.
SCB Medical College and Hospital’s transplant surgeon & Urology dept Professor Dr. Datteshwar Hota, Prof. Jayashri Mohanty, Prof. Sarojkant Sahoo, Dr. Sabyasachi Panda, Dr. Sanjay Chaudhury, Dr. Kalyanibala Nayak, Dr. Rudrashish Samal, Anandita Sabat, Suman Singh, Ramakanta Panda, Sabitri Das & Dr, LN Behera and Apollo Hospital’s Dr. Sudhir Digikar Sameeran Das Adhikari, Dr. Sharmili Sinha, Dr Bibekananda Panda, Dr, Debabrata Dash, Dr. Subrat Sahu, Dr. Nitish Mohanty and Dr. Ashish Nayak were also present on the occasion.In the first-ever cadaveric transplant in Odisha, doctors harvested two kidneys from a 22-year-old brain dead woman, Priyankarani Patra of Ganjam district, in a Bhubaneswar hospital and transplanted them on to two end-stage renal patients.
While one of the kidneys was transplanted on a 35-year-old man who was admitted to the same private hospital where the woman was admitted, the other one transported about 30 km for transplantation on a 31-year-old renal patient in Cuttack’s SCB Medical College and Hospital.
