Odia IAS officer GC Murmu is new LG of J-K

NEW DELHI/BHUBANESWAR: Gujarat cadre Odia IAS officer Gopal Chandra Murmu was on Friday appointed as new Lieutenant Governor of newly formed Jammu and Kashmir UT.

Murmu replaced Satya Pal Malik, who shifted to Goa as Governor.  Radha Krishna Mathur has been appointed as Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, a newly created UT after the abrogation of Article 370.

P.S. Sreedharan Pillai has been appointed as Governor of Mizoram, a communiqué from Rashtrapati Bhawan said;

Prior to his new assignment, Murmu worked as Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi , when he was Chief Minister of Gujarat and later shifted to New Delhi and held several important positions in Ministry of Finance and Corporate Affairs. He was presently working as Union Secretary for Expenditure under Finance Ministry.

Murmu hails from Baripada in northern Odisha districts of Mayurbhanj bordering Jharkhand. This was Modi’s second surprised gift to the people of Mayurbhanj after Draupadi Murmu , who is serving now as Jharkhand Governor.
