BHUBANESWAR:Nursing is a noble profession which provides its practitioners the
opportunity to serve the suffering world with a human touch, Prof. Pradipta Kumar Nanda,
Vice-Chancellor of SOA Deemed to be University here said on Friday.
“Nurses were the most sought after professionals when the Covid-19 pandemic struck
and their valiant work was acknowledged by the entire world,” Prof. Nanda said while
speaking as the chief guest at the orientation program of the new batch of nursing students
getting admitted in different courses of the SUM Nursing College (SNC), SOA’s faculty of
nursing.
Students who had taken admission into the General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM), B.Sc.
(Nursing), Post Basic B.Sc. (Nursing) and M.Sc. (Nursing) courses attended the program.
Congratulating the students for taking admission into an institution run by SOA, the
Vice-Chancellor said they had chosen an university which was ranked 15 th in the country by theNational Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) and was operating several large hospitals.
“Ours is a research oriented university and you will get enough scope for such
activities,” he said adding “we encourage students to do research and acquire knowledge.”
Prof. (Dr.) Pusparaj Samantasinghar, Medical Superintendent of Institute of Medical
Sciences and SUM Hospital-1, faculty of medical sciences of SOA, who attended as guest of
honour, said the nursing profession was gaining prominence and getting attractive.
Prof. (Dr.) Samantasinghar said in the healthcare sector, the nurses were of vital
importance as they did most of the work from counseling to treatment.
Ms. Minati Mishra, Nursing Superintendent of IMS and SUM Hospital, who was also the
guest of honour at the program, congratulated the students for choosing a great profession
where they can excel through hard work and professionalism.
Prof. Pravati Tripathy, Director of SNC, Prof. Sasmita Das, Dean of SNC and Prof. Tapati
Saha, Additional Dean of SNC, also addressed the gathering while Prof. Jyoti Ranjan Das, Dean(Students’ Welfare) and one of the guests of honour sent his good wishes as he could not be present. Ms. Mamata Swain, Associate Professor, proposed the vote of thanks.
