NTPC provides Health Infrastructure support to RIMS – SBMC Medical Colleges in Jharkhand

RANCHI/BHUBANESWAR:  In view of the second wave of COVID pandemic in the country as well as in Jharkhand state resulting in a high surge in serious cases and resulting in bed scarcity across all the major hospitals in Ranchi city including Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RlMS).

NTPC being a responsible Maharatna Power Major, NTPC Pakri Barwadih Coal Mining Project, Hazaribag has come forward for providing assistance to RIMS Hospital, Ranchi for installation of oxygen piping system to convert a four-story unit (16wards) to provide additional 332 oxygen equipped beds to be put in service for covid cases with the financial support of 45 lakhs under the CSR initiative. Currently, the work is in steady progress and around 150 beds are to admission ready this week and the rest are expected to be ready soon this month.

The support intends to cater to the large need for oxygen for patients admitted at RIMS, Ranchi leading to COVID beds getting saturated with no oxygen back up for patients under treatment coming from all parts of Jharkhand and neighbouring states. Extra oxygen equipped beds for Covid Care ICU/Wards shall be helpful not only for the residents of this city but people of Jharkhand visiting the hospital for treatment.

NTPC Pakri Barwadih Coal Mining Project has also come forward for assistance to Seikh Bhikari Medical College in association with Hazaribag District Administration to facilitate and install a centralized Oxygen system in 5 no.s of the identified wards supporting 84 beds for critical care.

The work was done on a war footing and completed on 17.04.2021 and handed over to the local administration for treatment of covid patients. In addition, the work also includes the provision of around 60- 80 oxygen system beds to be readied in the future with a cost of 24 lakhs spent under its CSR initiative.

In addition to the above, NTPC Tallaiapalli Coal Mining project , Chattisgarh has contributed 15 lakhs for providing medical equipment/ services/supplies for the prevention of the COVID19 epidemic was provided to Raigad District Administration.

NTPC Dulanga Coal Mining Project located in Odisha plans to provide Masks and Sanitizer to R&R villagers surrounding  and Food items to working labourers worth 7 lakhs in mine area of the Project.

Considering the huge surge in COVID-19 cases in India, NTPC is taking several steps to fight against the spread of the virus.NTPC is adding to the capacity at its hospitals or otherwise helping the local administration for developing such facilities which are being used for treating COVID-19 infected people.
