New Motor Vehicle Act: Odisha Government gives 3 more months

BHUBANESWAR: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday announced that the State Government has allowed 3 months more time to the general public to ensure compliance of various provisions of the amended Motor Vehicle Act.

This extension for 3 months is given as last warning and no further time extension will be allowed. However, there will be strict enforcement against dangerous life threatening actions like drunken driving, dangerous driving, over speeding, driving against flow of traffic, using mobile while driving, triple riding on two wheelers, wearing of helmet and sit belt, over loading, jumping red light and zebra crossing. In case any motorist is found in contravention of any of the road safety provisions, the documents also will be checked meticulously.

During last 3 months at least 9.5 Lakh applications were received for Learners Licence (LL) out of which only 5.45 Lakh LL were issued. It is pertinent to mention here that during the year 2018 only 3.48 Lakh LL were given. As per official report during last 3 months about 1 Lakh regular driving licence were issued.
