Naveen’s 5T: BDO, IIC, 2 Sarpanches suspended in Odisha

BHUBANESWAR/BARIPADA/BOUDH/GANJAM: The State Government on Monday suspended a Block Development Officer (BDO) and two Sarpanches on different grounds, informed Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water, Law and Housing and Urban Development Minister Minister Pratap Jena.

The Minister said the Government suspended Boudh district’s Harabhanga BDO Rabindra Satpathy for not following guidelines of the Prime Minster Awas Yojana and for promoting corruption.

Sarpanch Abhimanyu Jena of Kedarpur Gram Panchayat under Soro block in Balasore district was suspended for financial irregularities and Sarpanch Ushanta Sahu of Ankorada Gram Panchayat under Digapahandi block in Ganjam district was suspended for amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

They were all suspended under the direction of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, said Jena. Meanwhile, the Inspector-in-Charge of Jharpokharia police station in Mayurbhanj district was suspended by interim DGP Satyajit Mohanty on Monday for dereliction of duty in connection with the suicidal death of a woman Lecturer of Rairangpur College.

IIC Sarat Kumar Mahalik had on Sunday been transferred following the death of the Lecturer. Assistant Sub-Inspector Prashant Swain, who was the Investigating Officer of the case, was suspended by Mayurbahnj SP Smith Parmar on Sunday.

The deceased woman, who had lodged an FIR at the Jharpokharia police station on October 30 alleging that she had been raped by a distant relative during her visit to Keonjhar on October 27, was found hanging in a room of the women’s hostel of the college.
