Naveen Patnaik’s Mo School Adoption Campaign: Minister Dr Arun Sahoo Surprise All, Adopts 3 Schools in Nayagarh

BHUBANESWAR: Odisha Higher Education , Agriculture and Farmers Empowerment Minister , Dr Arun Sahoo has surprised all after the BJD Lawmaker announced to adopt as many as 3 Schools in his home districts of Nayagarh as part of the State Government’s Mo School adoption Programme.  

Minister Dr Sahoo has adopted 3 Schools including Madhyakhanda HS, Kishore Chandra Vidyapitha and Rasanga Upper Primary School in Nayagarh. BJD Rajya Sabha MP and National Spokesperson, Dr Amar Patnaik had alreday announced to adopt Unit-4 Bhoumya Nagar UP School, where he studied his 4th and 5th. The School was established in 1957.

former Supreme Court judge and Chief Justice of Kerala & Delhi High Court Justice Arijit Pasayat has adopted Ravenshaw Collegiate School.  Susmita Bagchi, Chairperson, Mo School inaugurated 4 smart classrooms at IRC Village Govt High School, which has a student strength of 1700. She had donated 2 lakhs for this.  Not one school, but two! Dr. Krishan Kumar , Odisha Works Secretary  wants to adopt M R Boys High School and M R Girls High School, both in Gajapati district.

According to School and Mass Education department sources, over 30 officers including 13 from the Chief Minister’s Office and 17 from different government departments and district administrations have led by example and come forward to connect with the school adoption programme.

Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mohapatra tops the list of adopting officers. Mohapatra is set to adopt DN High School in Keonjhar, sources said. Similarly Chief Advisor to the CM R Balakrishnan and Principal Advisor to CM Asit Tripathy, also Western Odisha Development Council chief, will adopt Jajpur Government High School and Titlagarh High Schools respectively.

Additional secretary to the Chief Minister Roopa Roshan Sahoo has adopted BB High School in Dhenkanal. School and Mass Education Secretary Satyabrata Sahu, who had lent his voice for the ‘Mo School’ anthem last year, will adopt Manikeswari High School in Bhawanipatna.

This apart, IT Secretary Manoj Mishra will adopt the Unit I Boys High School in the Capital city and Energy Secretary Nikunja Bihari Dhal will adopt BS High School at Sayedpur in Jajpur and work for their development. Transport secretary Madhusudan Padhi will take up Brahmapur High School in Bhadrak.

The list also includes Special Secretary at CMO Vineel Krishna, RDC Central Division Anil Kumar Samal, Odisha Mining Corporation MD Balwant Singh, OSEPA State Project Director Bhupendra Singh Poonia and district collectors of Bhadrak, Gajapati and Kendrapara.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had launched the ‘Mo School Abhiyan’ on Children’s Day in 2017 to bring alumni, their alma mater and the community around government or government aided schools together for their transformation.  The funds for implementation of Mo School programmes comes from two sources – contribution from donors while twice the amount of the contribution is drawn from a dedicated initial corpus of Rs  100 crore created by the State Government.

A robust and vibrant school education system holds the key to a brighter future for the state and its people. Odisha needs to groom its school children to be successful citizens that shape the emergence of a progressive and cosmopolitan state leading it to be the most developed one in the nation.Mo School is a first-of-its-kind initiative in the country – a citizen-government partnership in which the former leads in designing the programme, defining its goals and directing its implementation.

Earlier , Chief Minister Patnaik had urged Union Ministers Dharmendra Pradhan and Pratap Chandra Sarangi, Orissa High Court judges, all MLAs and MPs of the State to adopt schools under the State Government’s ‘Mo School’ initiative. Till now, dozen over IAS officers have adopted several Schools across the State.

In a letter to the elected representatives and judges, Patnaik advised them to adopt the schools in which they had studied or any school of their choice under the Mo School programme. A person can adopt a maximum of three schools under the initiative.
