BHUBANSWAR: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Union PNG-Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan have condole the death of legendary Jatra artist Mahendra Das aka Bhiku Seth, who breathed his last at his residence in Choudwar in Cuttack district on Saturday. He was 55.
“I am deeply anguished after hearing the sad demise of noted Yatra artist Mahendra Das and hid death has created a vacuum in Odisha Yatra Industry,” CM Patnaik said. Union Minister Pradhan also remembred how Das became a household name for his towering roles in several Odia Yatra Organisations.
Sources close to the artiste said he suffered severe chest pain late last night and died on the way to hospital. Das became a household name for his memorable role in the play ‘Saguna Basichi Dena Melai’ which gave him the moniker of Bhiku Seth.
Mahendra, a member of Kalinga Gananatya, was identified for his negative character. He had also worked with troupes like Parbati Gananatya and Dhauli Gananatya.
