BHUBANESWAR: Senior IAS officers like Hemant Sharma, DK Singh, Vishal Dev, BP Sethi, VV Yadav, Satyabrata Sahu and Anil Kumar Sahu have been pressed into action by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to monitor the flood situation in Odisha.
The senior mandarins have been asked to monitor the flood situation in Kendrapara, Cuttack, Bhadrak, Balasore, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur and Puri districts respectively. Meanwhile, Collectors of all the districts have been directed to remain alert and take necessary measures.
The authorities of Hirakud dam opened a total of 46 sluice gates to discharge floodwater causing water level flowing high in River Mahanadi.
Many parts of rain-soaked Odisha are likely to be lashed by heavy downpour from September 1, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Regional Centre said.
According to MeT, well-marked low-pressure area over south-west Jharkhand and neighbourhood now lies over north Chhattisgarh and adjoining East Madhya Pradesh.
Under its impact, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Sundergarh and Gajapati might witness moderate rainfall with heavy rainfall in some areas from September 1, it said.
Odisha has reported 838.2 mm rainfall from June 1 to August 25, which is three percent less than the normal. Malkangiri reported the highest 1439.8 mm rain followed by Deogarh (1128.9 mm), Sambalpur (973.9 mm), Koraput (953.6) and Dhenkanal (949.1 mm).
