Naveen Jindal Reviews JSPL’s on-going Expansion Work in Odisha’s Angul

BHUBANESWAR/ANGUL: Chairman Naveen Jindal continued to pursue the on-going expansion of Jindal Steel and Power Limited in Odisha’s Coal bearing Angul.

The JSPL Chairman, has been extensively travelling to Angul to review on-going expansion work  which will make the Angul Steel Plant’s capacity from 6 MTPA to 25.2 MTPA by 2030 , and will be the largest Plant in the World in a single location as per present capacities.

JSPL also operates the world’s first coal gasification based DRI plant of 2.0 million tonne capacity at Angul in Odisha, where syngas is used to make direct-reduced iron (DRI) or sponge iron, an input required in the steel-making process. JSPL’s coal gasification plant capacity is 225,000 NM3 per hour of syngas, which is supporting the 2.0 million MT of syngas based DRI plant.

Jindal Steel and Power Limited has produced around 6.86 million tonnes of crude steel and 4.34 million tonnes of finished steel during 2020-21. Minister Singh was replying total production capacity, actual production, consumption, import and export of both iron ore and finished steel in the Upper House.

 JSPL, which has crude steel production capacity of 8.60 million tonnes, had produced 5.25 Million tonnes during 2018-19, 5.86 MT during 2019-20 and 6.86 during 2020-21. The Minister said, JSPL produced 3.81 MT finished steel during 2018-19, 4.48 MT during 2019-20 and 4.34 MT during 2020-21.
